in the Parish of Tipton St. John with Venn Ottery

Sharing God’s love with our community
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:18

This month please pray for the residents of The Orchard, Mallocks Close, Barton Orchard and Tipton Lodge.

Give thanks to God for the success of our church fete last month – both for the fun in the summer sun and the funds that were raised.

Please remember all those who are sick, in body, mind or spirit at this time thinking especially of Mary Bavidge, Lilian, Avril and Mac. Pray for God’s blessing on them and all those that care for them.

We hold in God’s loving care those battling recent natural disasters including the victims of Tropical Storm Harvey in the USA, flooding in Nepal, India and Bangladesh and the mudslide in Sierra Leone.

3rd September – St Gregory – Merciful Father, who chose your bishop Gregory to be a servant of the servants of God: grant that, like him, we may ever long to serve you by proclaiming your gospel to the nations, and may ever rejoice to sing your praises; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

5th September – We pray for the children and staff at Tipton School as they begin a new school year and ask for God’s special blessing on those for whom this is their first day there. Remember too those starting at secondary schools, colleges and universities.

7th September – We pray for our homegroup as it resumes tonight. Ask God to bless those attending with a deeper knowledge of himself, in both heart and head, and with a deeper love for each other.

9th September – Ask God to bless all those taking part in the Devon Historic Churches Ride and Stride today. As they raise funds to keep our church buildings open may we all appreciate those who built them for the glory of God and the growth of his kingdom in our county.

10th September – Tipton St John Harvest Outdoor Commun-ion and harvest lunch – God of love and creator of all things, we thank you for your marvellous provision of all we need. As we remember those less fortunate than ourselves, we hold before you the work of the charities we’re supporting: Ripple Africa, Water Aid and St Petrock’s. Help us to use what you give us to your glory and the welfare of all. Amen.
We also continue to pray for young Lily following her baptism last month and for her parents and godparents. Ask God to keep on filling her with his Spirit that she may grow in strength and faith day by day, and come to acknowledge Jesus as her Lord and Saviour.

16th September – The Wedding of Alex Vick and Megan Booth at Venn Ottery – Lord, bless this couple and their respective families on this very special day. May their love for each other continue to grow and may you watch over them as they adapt to their new roles as husband and wife.

17th September – Deanery Confirmation Service – Almighty God, we lift to you all those from across our Deanery being confirmed at Escot this afternoon. We celebrate with them the joy of knowing the risen Lord Jesus. Father, fill them with your Holy Spirit this day and forever more. Amen.

20th September – We hold before God the members of the PCC as it meets today – may they make wise decisions that further God’s kingdom here, enabling us to better share his love with our community.

21st September – UN International Day of Peace – Heavenly Father, as international tensions rise, lead us to a place where all people can live together in peace and harmony, with respect, safety and dignity for all.  Where there is bitterness teach us forgiveness and reconciliation, replace hatred with love and indifference with care. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We give thanks that the ABIDE project in Ottery St Mary has been approved by the Home Office and ask God to bless them as they prepare for the arrival of a Syrian refugee family at the end of September. Pray for that family as they travel to the UK – may they quickly settle in a culture completely alien to what they know.
“Do not work so hard for Christ that you have no strength to pray,
for prayer requires strength.” Hudson Taylor
