Tipton St John Tennis Club

Tipton Tennis Club is a small club with two courts in the village playing fields, beautifully located next to the River Otter right in the heart of the village. We welcome new members of all standards from Tipton and surrounding area.

Our two hard-courts were relaid in 2009 and repainted in 2014, and provide one of the best playing surfaces in the local area. Both courts are flood-lit allowing play all year round and late into the evening. Members enjoy unlimited free use of the courts throughout the year - times may be booked up to 2 weeks in advance except where the courts are reserved for matches and fixed club activities such as club night and coaching sessions.

We run a regular club night all year round on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm. Some people will know that these rather fell apart, but the good news is that they are now very much up and running again, with at least one of our two coaches on hand to make sure everyone gets a game.

Non-members are welcome to come along to a Wednesday Club Night and give us a try

The Club also runs two men's and one ladies' team in the Exeter and District League. New players are always welcome - please contact tiptontennisclub@gmail.com to be put in touch with the captains.

The club shares use of the Playing Field Pavilion with the village Cricket Club

Use of Courts by Visitors

Visitors and non-members are welcome to use Court 2 (nearer the pavilion) provided it is not booked or in use by club members. A key may be obtained from Tipton Garage during opening hours for a charge of £2.50 per person per hour. Please sign the Visitors Book at the Garage. Note that this arrangement is for occasional use and is not a substitute for membership - locals who want to make regular use of the courts are strongly encouraged to join the club. Non-members are NOT entitled to pre-book the court.

Floodlights may be used by Adult and Student Members ONLY - Lights are operated from the trip switches and main switch in the cupboard. On is UP! Occasionally they may not fire up first time - switch off and leave a few seconds before trying again. You MUST switch off the lights and lock the control cupboard before you leave. If lights have recently been switched off, please leave 15 minutes before re-lighting as switching on hot bulbs can cause them to blow.

If you have problems, please inform a member of the committee.
